This school year has been difficult for many Canadians. Students are being asked to learn in new ways, teachers are adapting their teaching styles, and parents are finding ways to keep their children engaged with their schoolwork while they may be working from home. That’s why our government is continuing to step up and support the provinces and territories to ensure students and staff are protected from COVID-19.
In August, we announced up to $2 billion in support for provinces and territories through the Safe Return to Class Fund. Ontario will receive up to $763.34 million to help support local school boards and students. Provinces and territories received the first installment before the start of the school year.
Recently, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the second instalment of the $2 billion Safe Return to Class Fund. This funding will continue to support Ontario and local school boards by providing the funding needed to support measures, such as adapting learning spaces, including remote learning, improving air ventilation, increasing hand sanitation and hygiene, and the purchasing of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies.
As the school year continues whether in-person or remotely, the Federal Liberal Government will continue to take leadership and work together with provincial and territorial partners to protect the health and safety of all Canadians.
