The Constituency Youth Council (CYC) program is important to me because it allows youth to bring a new perspective on policy and issues affecting our communities. I know that the CYC in Scarborough-Rouge Park will work hard to be the youth voice for our community, and I intend to bring this perspective with me, every time I return to Ottawa. With this said, following the many successful policy discussions and projects undertaken by past Constituency Youth Councils, I am happy to announce the CYC 2020-2021 applications are now open.
The Constituency Youth Council is an opportunity for youth to learn about Canada’s political process, discuss their viewpoints on issues, and most importantly, get involved in their communities.
The Constituency Youth Council meets for the duration of a full school year term, from October 2020 to June 2021. The meetings occur once a month with the potential of having more frequent meetings depending. Due to COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure the health and safety of all members of the council, this year’s CYC will be taking place completely online via Zoom conferencing platform.
Giving youth a voice is vital to our government. A youth perspective brings a new light to issues touching our community, and our country. By having a CYC it allows me to gain perspective on important issues from the voices of youth within the riding. Youth are the leaders of Canada’s future and it is important that their input is taken seriously and represented in Ottawa.
To apply, applicants must complete and submit an application form which is available at: tiny.cc/SRPCYC2020
The deadline to apply is October 16, 2020.
I look forward to hearing from youth in our community.
Kindest regards,
Gary Anandasangaree
